I never thought I'd say this so soon out shoot, but I'm actually SUPER excited for next year already! We tossed around some ideas and its going to rock on SOOOO many levels. Thank you so much Abbey, Tina, and of course my sweet Celeste for making my whole day, week, possibly year!!!!!

This year we aren't going to make anyone sell tickets... however, in exchange I need everyone to stop by my house and get posters to put up. I have a list of where to put them so it shouldn't be too stressful, you're only in charge of 10. Your job is to come get these posters from my house on Saturday or Sunday (I'm hoping and assuming no one works on one of those days) and put them up around town to your designated spots BY WEDNESDAY, THE 3RD. I know this is a lot to ask, but everyone should be able to put up 10. If there are places, like your workplace, that would be more convenient for you, just leave a comment below and I'll add those places to your list.

Parade and Other Reminders

Parade is Monday, July 25th. Everyone needs to be at line up, at 400 South 100 East, at no later than 9:30 am. You need to be wearing a white shirt and capris/ long shorts. Production Number Choreography :)

Contestants don't come in for production number until their introductions (around 2:20 of the song "Just the way you are" by Bruno Mars). You will dance with a ballroom partner to the microphone to intro yourself "contestant #..... Aimee Peterson" and then walk off the side your mic is on and wait for end choreography. SO this is a video of your part without your partner counted out slow, then girl with partner counted slow, full speed with partner counted without music, with music from the back, with music from the front view, then the finale choreography counted slow, then choreography fast w music. For your intros you will be on an even side, or odd side. If you were not able to attend the production number rehearsal, I drew your number out of a hat. Pay attention to which number you are so that you know which side to practice from. Laura, you are now #2 because Peyton isn't doing it...

Please girls, I cannot stress enough how important it is to me that you learn your part perfectly for when we meet together on the 5th, which by the way is pushed to 7pm instead of 6 pm ( I know I know, this year is the year of changes back and forth....sorry) so that Aimee and I can be there. Please learn it, make sure that we don't have to waste the ballroom teams time, or your time going over it and spend the time cleaning it up instead. I spend a lot work on the production of the pageant and its really important to me that it looks professional and clean.

The good news is that we had enough girls want a modeling workshop so we'll work out a time that works for everyone....bad news is Andrea and the ballroom guys couldn't change the August 5th workshop so we're going to have to go back to it. I think that I am making a record for most changed dates this year (I blame post baby brain for anyone that cares :). I just won't be there, Andrea will just be in charge of making sure everything looks clean for me :)

#1 When I cancelled the makeup and hair workshop, I didn't realize that modeling was the combined with it. SO....if there are more than one of you that would like to do one, I'll reschedule it...otherwise, we'll just keep it the way that it is.

#2 I rescheduled the second production number clean up rehearsal for the 5ht of August, I failed to remember that I am in charge of "Cedars Got Talent" that night and theres no way I can be there, so I think that I will ONCE AGAIN (sorry) reschedule it to the 6th. Would you rather it in the day since its a weekend, or do you want to keep it at 6? Leave a comment with what you'd rather and thats what we'll do. Thanks for your patience girls.

CMN Registration

Everyone has to be registered for CMN. Even if you have previously ran for a pageant that required you to register, you have to register again. SO....
You are in charge of registering online at www.MissAmerica4kids.org. At the right-hand side of the page about half way down is a button that says “New Contestant-CLICK HERE.” Click on that button, choose from the drop-down list of pageants and you’re obviously looking for Miss Iron County and you just need to fill out the necessary information that will keep track of your money raised. They actually make it really easy to send out emails to family and friends to donate if you want to do it that way. If you decide to go around for actual donations you will need to make sure that they make the check out to “Children’s Miracle Network” and you will have to send in the check with a form to CMN which I can get you. IF YOU DO NOT RAISE THE MINIMUM $100 BEFORE THE MISS IRON COUNTY YOU WILL BE NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO WIN.

If you want to send emails click on “Send Emails” on the left hands side and enter addresses to send to you friends and family…..my suggestion would be to send one email to yourself to your own email address, then when you get that email from the system, add a personal note to that email and forward that email to any and all that you would like to. You could ask for $5, $10, $20 dollars or whatever they can give to both great causes. Make sure you include the information that it is tax writable under charitable donation.

Open Pageant in Cedar City set for February!

We are getting ready for our first contestant meeting for Miss Southern Utah and I want to extend to you all a personal invitation to compete for the title. The first meeting is on November 16th at 8:00 pm, held at Gravity Dance Studio in Cedar City, Utah

I've been able to form a committee of talented people and now I just need all of you to make up all of our talented contestants! Our last year's queen Erika Hansen, currently Miss Southern Utah reminded us why she deserves a spot in the Miss Iron County legacy

....Another highlight of mine was the sillouette of Kaylee and my dad Michael right before evening gown.....ahhhh so cute!

Its so hard to watch each and every one of you work and grow, only to have one person know how well they really did. There were so many of you that were mentioned after while conversing with the judges and they were beyond impressed with Iron County's quality of women. Thank you girls...thank you for making it an amazing year. You girls more than shined for us. So proud.

My Aimee has worked so hard and I'm more than proud of her. She is a perfect example of coming back after hard work and tons of preparation and prove herself. Great Job. Miss Utah here we come!

Congradulations girls, last night was phenomenal. The judges were beyond impressed with our Iron County girls and we got so so many comments on the pageant itself. It was by far without a close second the most incredible production to date and we wouldn't have been able to pull it off without you 12 girls and your calibur of talent, poise, and grace. I'm so beyond proud right now I honestly can't even tell you. You ALL represented your county well and made us shine.

DeLaney, oh DeLaney. You outdid yourself last night and I'm so grateful we were able to utilize your talents. I sat backstage with goosebumps and tears in my eyes listening to you sing "Whistle down the Wind" because it was a song I've wanted to hear performed for 16 years. It was flawless, perfect, and so incredible. Your dance with your dad was so perfect and moving and the choreography was amazing.

Thank you so much girls, for allowing me the pleasure of getting to know you. For the chance to watch you shine. What an amazing night. One of the best ever!

This really is one of the funner aspects of Miss Iron County. You need to have your crown and your banner if you are Miss Iron County to everything, attendants wear crowns as well. Make sure that you dress appropriately. If you are going to the mudbogs or rodeos, you can wear jeans but you still need to dress it up. Heals, trendy shirt...something like that. If you are unsure, call me. DO NOT under any circumstances be late. This is the biggest financial supporter of Miss Iron County and they do not appreciate not knowing where you are, and when they call me looking for you.....makes the program look irresponsible and makes me more mad than you'll want to see me :) Please be early to everything, make Miss Iron County look good. Be the responsible cute girls that I love and support. Angela and I will participate and go to as much as we can, but for the most part you will need to be responsible and independant. Its kind of my crash after the pageant time and its definately to the point that my husband and kids are saying NO MORE! Be gracious, be helpful, be the cute girls we know you to be! Be prepared for impromptu assignments. Last year DeLaney entertained and sang above and beyond the call of duty and the fair was very very happy which makes US very very happy. Please notice the areas that they would like your mothers to attend for help. I will try and help as well, but see if your mothers wouldn't mind attending as well.

You will all recieve tickets to get in for free. Make sure that if you have an escort it is appropriate and usually NOT a boyfriend. There are some things they can come to, but for the most part an escort needs to be a family member. Boyfriends can come, but need to watch from a distance.... ;) Again, if you have any questions, feel free to let me know. Otherwise....have fun!

Just a reminder to get your tickets sold, please let your family and friends know that it's cheaper from you than at the door. We're really trying to avoid the problem we had last year of the line out the door when the pageant is supposed to start. We doubled our ticket takers but this should help the issue if we have presold most of the tickets, then we can just have one of the lines be a ticket taker instead of purchasing the tickets. So please bring your ticket sales to the thursday rehearsal day. That should give you enough time, unless you haven't started which should still be enough time to sell your tickets. If you cannot sell those tickets before thursday it is your responsibilty to contact me or Angela. Otherwise your $100 ticket money is due thursday.

CMN Reminderr

Just to clarify one more painful time, if you don't have your CMN $100 donation done and sent in before the pageant you will not be eligible to win. You need to either do it online And it will automatically send it in OR you need to print off the CMN check form to send In with your check. I have no control over this. Meaning if you are late there is nothing I can do to make you eligible to win. I will just have to inform the judges that you are not eligible to win any of the scholarships and/or the royalty. If you have any questions please contact me, otherwise I will assume you are aware that you are not eligible and quietly inform the judges. If you send in the check knowing it will arrive later than the night before the pageant you need to let me know and have proof somehow that it was sent off. If you send it within one week of the pageant I will assume that they will get it and it will show up on The online access I have to everyones status. Please don't procrastinate this. They said that it needs to be done two weeks prior to, but I think if you have it sent off before the pageant you should be fine BUT you have to show proof to me somehow. Good luck with that. Talent Minus Track

I am leaving town till thursday, which is our production number rehearsal/ swimsuit and production outfits approval. For those who have not given me the minus track to their songs needs to either email me their songs or have it with them that day, no exceptions. I HAVE to get the master cd for the pageant done and I'm waiting on those talent cds only. Please please make sure you have it there. Also make sure you have the production number choreography memorized and performance ready so that all we have to do is clean it up.

-Don't forget to get your tickets sold

-We will have posters for you to put around town and a list of the places you need to take them to so that we can them evenly distributed. This is an important task because its how we advertize the pageants time and date, since I got some headshots later than usual, I wasn't able to get the posters done as soon as I would have liked so I would very very much appreciate it you can be responsible to get the posters to your 10 designated spots BEFORE saturday night, August 7th. We'll have them for you no later than the production number rehearsal, if you want a faster jump on it, contact Angela before then and she should have them. Delaney at the 4th of July Parade. Notice the freaking cute car, that was a BIG favor from Wayne Clark because according to Jim its the sweetest car ever! And of course once a Miss Iron County, always a Miss Iron County....Erika waving at Lauren who is SUPER excited about seeing someone she recognized wearing a crown! My Lilly kept jumping up and down, "Ka! Ka!!" And who is in the shot gun seat? Yup! Thats last year's 2nd attendant, Crystal Cardon super excited to be involved! Where's your tiara Crystal?

What competition there was this year at Miss Utah. Aimee held her own and had SUCH a great onstage question, it was concrete and personal and I loved it. She played her piano piece the best I have ever seen her play with emotion and awesome stage presence. She looked stunning and I'm so proud of her. Great job Aimee!! My camera's battery died so I will post more when I get them from everyone else's camera.

And of course my Erika, Miss Southern Utah got 3rd attendant! Are you kidding me?!?!? From hundreds of girls, down to 54, down to 10 and she came in 4th in the state. She worked hard, looked amazing and I'm so proud. I would also like to point out that aside from 3rd attendant, I am even more so proud of the fact that out of ALL the contestants, Erika recieved the first annual lifetime achievement award for best platform and the service that she has done. I am so proud of both of you girls, great job!

On a side note. Becki Bronson our Interview Coach came to cheer both girls on and it was her birthday so we took her to the Blue Iguana where they absolutely mortified her by singing on the guitar Happy Birthday in spanish. So awesome!

I thought I would give you a heads up on production number outfits. These are examples of what I'm thinking. I want lots, variety, and colorful. Not the one in the beige on the far left, but everything else would be great. As soon as you find something, you're welcome to bring it by so I can approve it or you can email me a pic. Either is fine, or you can wait till the workshop to approve that and the swimsuit but I just wanted to make sure you can have plenty of time to find something else in case what you have doesn't work. It can be anything from a poodle skirt to the lucy dress, to capris with plain shirt and scarf, be creative.

This years theme is "You Can't Stop the Beat" and our pageant is going to have a broadway show theme. Its going to be incredible. If you were involved last year then you were able to see the INCREDIBLE turn out and this year is going to be even better. This program is moving and growing!

I am so excited! I am always surprised at how fast the year goes by and we are getting ready for our first meeting. Between the pageant itself and my brother Josh coming home, this is a bit late!! My mom took these pictures so trying to find the time to get over to her house to copy it to my card let alone post it....well lets be honest, it wasn't high up on my priority list...BUT I couldn't not post it because of how cute you girls looked and how well it turned out. Aside from some grease getting on DeLaney's arm, Alyssa getting the flu and having to leave, and one of the 4-wheelers not starting hence a little bit of caos in the morning....all is well that ends well!

Angela and I worked so hard to make this year incredible and it was such an amazing feeling watching it all pan out. The production itself turned out so well and the tickets we sold were the most in years....we're finally seeing Miss Iron County go back to the way it was and better. Angela and I had to go out and help sell tickets because the line out the door wasn't getting any smaller and we needed to get started. We finally started 15 minutes late hoping the two girls left could handle the crowd. I sincerely thought I was going to have a heart attack watching the lights go dim knowing that it time to start.

CEDAR CITY - The annual Miss Iron County Pageant continues to break down stereotypes, both of pageant life and for the Utah community, as queens of past and present push platforms of change at home. This year's Miss Iron County, crowned Saturday night in front of a packed Canyon View auditorium, is 18-year-old Delaney Westfall, with her platform of adoption advocacy. The Cedar City resident has four adopted siblings of diverse backgrounds, not something one sees in the average family today. But having a fulfilling life with joy from her siblings made choosing a platform, and how to move forward, relatively easy for the Brigham Young University freshman.

"I'll be putting together a book full of adoption stories," Westfall said, hoping to get the published information out to educate the public. Westfall said she is also planning a large community event for Adoption Day, Nov. 15, in hopes of meeting her goal to get as many children adopted into loving homes as possible. Last year's Miss Iron County, Erika Hansen, also from Cedar City, came closer to her own goal after being crowned, to diligently spread awareness about child sexual abuse, being a survivor and silent sufferer for years before speaking out. Hansen has become a certified Steward of Children because of her active role in the community on this subject, being able to teach a three-step program for both children and adults to help them recognize sign of sexual abuse and how to react. "Get ready for the experience of your life," Hansen said before the crowning to the future Miss Iron County. Westfall received several awards for winning, including a $3,000 scholarship to the school of her choice. Her first attendant is Aimee Peterson and second attendant is Crystal Cardon, who also received scholarships

Angela and I have gotten so much posative feedback this year, more so than any other year that I've directed. Question: Are we (you contestants) still responsible for selling them?
Answer: I don't know who this is because theres no name, but no...it wouldn't hurt to sell as many as possible considering all the proceeds from the pageant night are going right back into scholarships, we aren't "making" you sell a certain amount. If your family wants to purchase them at the discounted price then they would need to that morning.

I'm sorry about being family night and all, but this is the only time our judges can make it. I would strongly suggest taking advantage of this opportunity. (If there's a lot of you that are interested we will schedule you to come 10-15 minutes before and after eachother so you're not standing around waiting all night. In the past, I have allowed the girls who don't make the royalty to take their 8x10's that will be displayed in the foyer. You are still allowed to do that IF you are willing to take the picture OUT of the frame. Angela and I decided we don't want to buy new frames every year, so we are planning on reusing them. So you can take the picture after the pageant IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE ROYALTY, but NOT the frame.

Pageant week schedule:
-Wednesday, August 12th at 6 pm-Production number blocking and modeling, bring your production number dresses and ALL ACCESSORIES you are planning to wear so that Angela and I can evaluate it as a whole. We may take away, add, or do nothing depending on what everyone else is wearing and how it looks as a whole. If you are uncomfortable witht he sleeveless dress, you are welcome to put a BLACK shade shirt underneath, everyone is to wear the cami that I gave you with your dress. If you have not recieved your dress, I would STRONGLY recommend calling before next week so that if the dress needs fixing, you are not realizing that the week of.
-Thursday, August 13th at 6 pm- Production number and talent run through
-Friday, August 14th at 6pm- FULL DRESS RUN THOUGH. You don't have to wear full hair and makeup, but you do need your clothes so that you have an idea of how much or how little time you will have to change. Plan on being there late, we may run it twice.
-Saturday, August 15th- PAGEANT DAY!! HOORAY!
*Breakfast- 9 am at Hampton Inn
*Interviews begin at 1:00 p.m.

Even if there isn't something specifically set, if you are in the royalty you are contracted to be to the fair looking cute...it really is fun! I will be leaving out of town Monday, July 27th at 1 pm. If you would like to come and get your dress BEFORE the fun run on Saturday, you need to call me before I leave. I would recommend this in case it needs adjusting.

DON'T forget the fun run on saturday morning, 8:30 am. This is not negotiable. You cannot participate in the pageant if you have not raised $100. If you are not there, I will assume that you are bringing me $100 to the 1st pageant week rehearsal (thursday, August 13th) that your mom, dad, or Aunty Em "donated". And just to remind you that whoever raises the most money gets $100 straight cash. Your money is DUE on that thursday. No exceptions.

The production number HAS to be LEARNED, MEMORIZED, and READY TO PERFORM on thursday. This year has the potential of being amazing production wise and you will stand out in a not good way if you are not memorized. Does that mean you need to be the best dancer, no. But there is a big difference between not being a good dancer and OBVIOUSLY not knowing the routine.

Please make sure if you are needing anything...ANYTHING that you let Angela or I know. We are here to help. We are here to run modeling, the production number, interviews, your talents, make up ideas, hair ideas, whatever it is you are stressing about, let us know and help you. BUT you need to make sure we are aware of it BEFORE the week of the pageant so that we are able to help adequately.

I want you girls to know that I am so proud of you. I can't speak for Angela, but I can tell you for myself that you girls light up my life and give me an outlet that allows me to enjoy my own. I appreciate your willingness to step outside your box and comfort zone so that others can watch you shine. I wish you all could see what I see in you and I hope that this is a good enough experience so that whatever the outcome you come back next year and play with me again! I was a little unsure of doing this a few years ago. Not sure if I was in a position to do something like this, but I am so thankful I did....I'm so thankful I have the blessing of getting to know girls like you every year and enjoy every minute of it! Thanks to Erika and Angela who make it easy to enjoy it! I love all of you!

I will have your shirts anytime after 12 noon tomarrow...if you want to wear some sort of cami or tank top under your shirt you can change at the parade if you don't get a chance to get it from me before hand.

-Line up is 400 East and Main, theres a church right there that will give you the information of where you're lining up. Or you can call my cell and I can give you the exact spot of where we're lining up.

-9:30 PROMPT. They always tell you to be there at like an hour before, I won't make you do that, I won't be there that early because you COOK in the sun...BUT the only way we can get away with showing up late is if everyone is on time...so please be there right at 9:30.

-My father in law is running for mayor and has asked all of his kids and grandkids to be in there parade with him...that means you girls will be on your own. Please listen to Erika if she asks you to do something or be somewhere. I will meet you at the end of the parade. I'll be there to line up, but then I'll need to go with my husband and kids.

FYI about Bronzing for you girls...

HOW TO USE BRONZER
BY LAURA HIGBEE

· If you have a light complexion, use sheer bronzers with pinkish or peach shimmer. Avoid bronzers that are too brown, as they can make your skin seem muddy or dirty.
· If you have a medium skin tone, you are very lucky and can probably use any bronzer. The best shades for you, however, would be gold or brown with a tiny bit of orange.
· As for dark-skinned ladies, brownish-red bronzers look the most flattering on you.
Apply bronzer where the sun naturally hits, such as the tops of your arms, shoulders, chest, and on the face- temples of the forehead, bridge of the nose, chin and cheekbones.
Cleavage- Sweep a line of bronzer between breasts to create a shadow (the shadow that naturally occurs when you have cleavage). Be sure to blend bronzer.

Abs- Take some bronzer and go along your natural oblique curves on the sides, not too dark though, just like shadowing on a picture, then follow the natural center ab cut with an even lighter bronzer stroke or shade, then lightly go across if you want the full pack but it will look less fake if you just do the sides.

Sculpt your leg muscles by putting bronzer right where the calf muscle starts.

TIPS

· A wide and fluffy powder brush will work best.
· Ideally you should never choose a bronzer that is more than 2 shades darker than your natural skin tone.
· Always make sure you blend the bronzer in well.
· If you have really dark skin, you can try creating cleavage by using a shimmery highlighter that is two shades lighter than your complexion.
· Don’t over do it.
· Bronzer should enhance your natural beauty, not dominate your complexion.

BRONZER VS BLUSH

Blush is reserved for the apples of the cheeks. To find the apples of your cheeks look in a mirror and smile. Use gentle, sweeping motions starting at the center of your apple, and move up and outwards towards the corner of your eye and up to the temple. Blush is ideal for brightening up pale/fair skin. Bronzer creates a sun kissed complexion and unlike blush, it isn’t restricted to just the cheeks.

She may not be THE Miss Utah, but she's definately OURS

Angela and I went up to support our Erika at Miss Utah this past weekend. Its so frustrating when unless you get in the top 10 or win, you really don't know how well you did. EVERYONE noticed her, everyone had her in the top 10...what they don't know is Erika got the flu on the way up and didn't eat or keep anything down till 3 days in. She didn't complain or make excuses, she just continued. Erika made us proud, but its like I told her...I was far more proud before we stepped foot in that theatre than I would have been whether or not she won. Our goal wasn't to win Miss Utah, it was to make a difference and she has. This woman has been an INCREDIBLE representative and has become my friend. The lives she has touched are countless and the job Erika has done and continues to do is phenomenal. She truly is an exception to the rule and I hope she knows how proud we are of her. Probably 75% of those girls wanted the crown for the fame, glory, to feel like they were beautiful and to be praised. Erika wanted it to better the lives of others and would have rather not be in the spotlight, thats what makes her beautiful. "Light houses don't fire cannons to call attention to theirs shining, they just shine." Thank you for shining Erika.
